If pilots cannot evacuate the smoke from the cockpit, the FAA instructions are to land as soon as possible. As the Singapore cargo 747 example below shows, it is not possible to remove the smoke. The other videos show a solution when finding the source or removal is not possible.
Keep in mind that the Singapore 747-400 is the same type of aircraft that UPS was flying in September 2010 when it crashed.
